Day from Hell

So the last few weeks have been pretty quiet around here. Just working and cleaning and going to gymnastics. We met a few of our neighbors and they all seem really cool. Friday after gymnastics we went to a cookout at a neighbors who has a 2 yr old and a 4mo old. They had so many cool toys and a pool. Cody fell in love with this motorcycle toy and threw a fit when we had to leave. So he kept bugging me about going back and I would just say yes sometime this week. Well he didn't think that was good enough. Saturday morning he was playing outside while the rest of us were inside. For some reason I thought I heard a car door shut outside so I went to look and I saw Cody's truck parked next to the shut gate. I went outside and looked and looked, then I walked down the driveway and saw little bare footprints in the sand...I followed them until they disappeared at the main road! My heart dropped to my feet. There was a man cutting hay in the pasture across the main road so I hoped Cody was there watching the tractor but no. So I went home and told Josh and we got in the pick-up and drove straight to the neighbors with the motorcycle toy...they have a coded gate which I suppose he could have climbed over like he did ours but I was frantic at this point because we never saw him on the road and this is like 1/2 a mile away from the house. So we drive home and get my phone and I call 991 (yep seriously I forgot the number to 911) so with the second attempt for the first time in my life I reported an emergency and I told the story about 3 times to 3 different people and they sent a deputy. I was looking at our place and Josh was looking everywhere he could think of. I was calling the few neighbors that we know and they were on their way to help look. About 30 minuets after all his started Josh is down near the main road looking at the footprints when he hears Cody crying and sees a red pickup stop in the road toward the neighbors with the motorcycle. All I see from where I am is Josh take off running faster than I've ever seen anyone run and, so I'm thinking he got ran over, but then I see him pick up a Cody, meanwhile the Deputy pulls down the road. So all seems right again and I realize how lucky we are. I asked Cody why e climed over the gate and he said 'I was going to play the motorcycle game but I got lost'. The day seems to be all upside down, but still relief. At about bath time Josh and Cody go outside to put the horses back in the pasture since we let them out to graze the lawn, next thing I know Josh is carrying a crying Cody back in the house and Josh is telling him to touch his nose I look and his arm is mangled and his side is all scraped. The horse ran him over and trampled him. So now everything is upside down even more. My poor babies face was all dirty and he had sand in his mouth so all I wanted to do was give him his bath. After cleaning him up and checking over and over that he could move his arm we laid him down and we both laid with him forever. He cried a lot and we were struggling with whether or not to take him to the ER. After a while he was laughing and playing and eating. We decided not to go to the ER and today he seems fine, hardly any swelling in his arm and he just says 'from now on I have to watch out for the horses momma.' Last night Josh and I talked for hours about what was really important to us and how we seem to be getting all these signals lately to remind us of where we need to put our time and energy. Being a parent is such a hard thing and by the time you actually feel comfortable it's all over and does you no good. I feel so blessed that my children are home and safe for now and I just hope we can do the right things and not have the regrets we would have had if our luck had ran out yesterday!
