Airplanes, and bricks

What a freaking week! Last weekend Josh and I took on the project of pulling off all the old bricks where someone once had a fireplace in our living room. Josh had to chisel them out piece by piece...no not brick by brick but a little piece of a brick at a time until he got about three rows out. This wall is 12' long and so that took most of the day. After three rows we were able to get big chunks out and had it all down...WHAT A MESS. We used a wheelbarrow to carry load after load to the dump trailer then I stopped and looked around the house at a 1/2" layer of red dust on absolutely everything. I told Josh it was time to pack out clothes and move far, far away :) My OCD was on overload. So we went to the dump and spent nearly $100 to get rid of the bricks. Then on to cleaning! Josh got all the new sheet rock on the wall and then the weekend was over.
So Monday we were going to take it easy and try to recover when about 11PM we hear a barking noise coming from Cody's room. I went in and realized it was Cody trying to breath so I woke him up and he instantly threw up all over me. He started crying and wouldn't breath. I was scared he had swallowed something so Josh ran him to the ER while I got our wonderful neighbor to come stay with Tanner. By the time I got to the ER Cody was breathing well but still very grouchy. They gave him a breathing treatment and a steroid shot. Josh came home to relieve the sitter and by now it's nearly midnight. So the Dr comes in and casually tells me they are flying him to Phoenix Children's to make sure he didn't swallow anything. WHAT? I don't know why I didn't say no he's fine we're going home. But here's where Mother's Intuition becomes plain ol' paranoia. Because I had mentioned him swallowing something they had to make sure he didn't and because x-rays don't show things like fabric they had to send him where they had the tech. to check. Josh ended up flying with Cody who was in Heaven because he is fascinated with Airplanes! I got Tanner in the car and started driving because they said he would be discharged by the time I got there. So at 4Am Tues Morning I got to the hospital by some miracle and then we waited and waited some more. Josh had been waiting and Cody could have nothing to eat or drink...did I mention him throwing up earlier....poor guy. At about 7am they did another plain ol' X Ray and sent us home. Well we couldn't drive so we got a cheap room and tried to sleep the kids were not tired so it was interesting to say the least. We went to Waffle House took a shower and tried to sleep again. No Luck and then about 3pm Tues we headed home. The rest of the week has been filled with snotty noses, sore throats and grouchy Mom's and Dad's. Neither of us ever had the energy to work this week, so were hoping for a better second start to May! I do count my blessings that my kids are healthy enough to bounce off the walls daily and that we have a comfortable home to come home to, one without any bricks!

  1. Oh! No Fun. Winslow is always way better than I am at saying "no thank you, I don't need to spend a buzzilion dollars so that you can cover your backside for a malpractice suit." i think the docs here are a little airplane crazy some days. Glad you have survived. Here's to a better week!

  2. Ya thats exactly what we should have done and thats what I told the Dr at PCH that they were covering their backside but I used way more explicit language and I think they knew I was ready to go home! Cheers :)
